TEDxLive
TEDxLive is a license for TEDx events centered around streaming the talks and performances from an official TED Conference. Here, the world becomes TED’s audience.
If you're interested in organizing a TEDxLive event for TED2025: Humanity Reimagined, please read through the guidelines below before applying for a license. The application deadline is March 21, 2025.
About this event type
The idea for TEDxLive grew out of a question: What would happen if we made the TED Conference more open, more global, and its impact more immediate? What if we could ignite communities around the world to engage with — and build on — the TED Conference experience while it happened live?
A TEDxLive license allows organizers to host in-person events where an audience gathers to watch an official TED conference, live or on demand. TEDxLive events are a great choice for first-time organizers, as TED provides all the programming and includes the option for licensees to also feature live speakers and performers.
All TEDx rules apply to a TEDxLive license, with some exceptions listed below.
The following also applies to TEDxLive events:
Naming your event
If this is your first license, your TEDxLive event name will follow this convention: a name beginning with "TEDx," followed by the name of your city, school, neighborhood or organization, followed by the word "Live." Organizers who already have a standard license: use your existing event's name as the basis for your TEDxLive event name.
Dates
You may hold your TEDxLive event during the dates of the TED Conference or a scheduled window of time following the conference. For TED2025, you'll be able to hold a TEDxLive event anytime from April 7 until April 30.
Content and streaming
You can choose to showcase only talks and performances from TED2025, or curate local talks and performances in addition to streaming conference content.
You'll have access to stream all TED2025 content for your in-person audience, live or on demand, exclusively through the TED Live platform. TED will not provide downloadable files.
Please note that TED content can only be shared with an in-person audience, and you are not permitted to stream any TED content through online platforms. However, if you plan to invite remote attendees for a hybrid event experience, you are allowed to stream your own curated talks.
Audience
Your audience is the people from the area or community where you’re holding your TEDxLive event. Some may be previous attendees from another TEDx event you organized. We always recommend that organizers carefully curate their audience, and select a diverse group of people who can contribute meaningfully to the conversation.
You may not host a virtual TEDxLive event.
Size
TEDxLive events that feature only content from the TED conference — that is, no live speakers — may have more than 100 attendees. Events that feature local speakers in addition to TED content can have up to 100 attendees (with the exception of events organized by licensees with 100+ qualification, which can have more than 100 attendees).
Theme
The focus of your TEDxLive event is determined by the focus of the TED conference, since you'll primarily be screening content from the conference. If you invite live speakers, you should feature a diversity of people from across several disciplines who primarily come from the local community you’re serving.
TED will also provide a customizable design kit for your team to use for your event.
Pricing
The ticket price you may charge to cover event expenses depends on your Licensing Tier. Events organized by a Community tier licensee may charge up to $150 USD per ticket.
