2008年、世界金融危機によってラトビアは大打撃を受けました。失業率が一気に上がる中、政府は公的資金を打ち切って増税する一方で、富裕層や大企業に助成金を提供しました。これらはすべて、生活に苦しむ市民からの反発や抗議もないままに実行されたのです。社会学者のリエン・オゾリナは、どのようにしてラトビアの官僚たちが、自国の経済危機が個人のせいであると市民たちを納得させたかを検証します。そして世界中で起きつつある、不平等をよしとするような同様の社会政策の増加について浮き彫りにします。
